BIO

Educated at UCD (B.Physio, PhD) and University College London (MSc), Caitriona Cunningham gained international clinical experience, specialising in Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy prior to her academic appointment at UCD. Caitriona is driven to positively influence clinical practice and health services through research, education of future and current health professionals and engagement with professional and healthcare networks nationally and internationally. Her research focuses on musculoskeletal health with current projects regarding: Advanced Practice MSK services, Bone health and fracture prevention and Promotion of physical activity and exercise in health and disease. Her research findings have been widely published in international refereed journals and conferences with regular invited lectures and international research, editorial and health service consultancy roles. As the current Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning at UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science, she promotes excellence in teaching and education developments, leading on major curriculum enhancement projects and encouraging widening participation in education across a range of health and sports programmes. She continues to teach across undergraduate, graduate entry and specialist MSc Physiotherapy programmes and is Director of UCD’s Pre Physical Therapy Study Abroad Programme. As a member of the Physiotherapy Steering Group of the International Fragility Fracture Network and through her ongoing research, health service collaborations and community exercise programmes, she drives best practice in prevention and management of fragility fractures. Caitriona previously held the position of Chairperson of the Chartered Physiotherapists in Education (ISCP) employment group in Ireland and current professional memberships include the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (UK), International Federation of Orthopaedic and Manipulative Therapists Teachers' Group and the Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
