RESEARCH INTERESTS

My formal training in classics, history, and politics informs my research and teaching. Broadly defined my interests concern intellectual history/the history of ideas in antiquity with particular emphasis on: historiography, mythology and folklore, political thought, and religion. I am especially interested in Classical Greece and interactions with the civilisations of Iran, Mesopotamia, and Rome. To date much of my research has been devoted to the political and social thought of Xenophon, an Athenian thinker and a pupil of Socrates in the fifth and fourth centuries BC. I have published on various aspects of the Xenophontic corpus.
