RESEARCH INTERESTS
Conor's research focuses on Graeco-Roman cities, archaeological ceramics, and settlement sustainability. In order to create a sustainable global society, it is essential to consider and critique what we regard as sustainability through the systematic analysis of long term settlement histories of past societies. The survival of a settlement or a city for decades, or even centuries, does not necessarily mean that it was de facto a sustainable entity. Sustainability in both ancient and contemporary cities, often involves striking a balance between access to resources and negotiating human agency in relation to managing those resources. Conor has disseminated his research results widely to academic audiences through a peer-reviewed book, articles, chapters, and research presentations in Ireland, the UK, Greece, Canada, and the USA, as well to public groups and schools audiences through social media, outreach events and television documentaries. He also has a wide range of international fieldwork collaborations as a recognised specialist in ceramic analysis.
