The past is done, but the past continues to inform our present in a multitude of ways. I am dedicated to bringing those pasts and their presents to students. My modules are based on a student-centred approach where we explore together, formulate new questions and focus on skills of critical interpretation. I emphasise engaging with the documentary and material cultures of Late Antique and Early Medieval societies. I also encourage a supportive peer environment where there is room for creative assessment options that move beyond a reliance on formal examination.
