Dr Timmins' primary speciality is cardiovascular nursing, and following clinical examination and viva voce, she was appointed Nurse Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland within this speciality in 1998. Dr Timmins' interest in this field continues and has expanded into the area of spirituality based upon teaching/learning experiences and interests; the interdependence of this area on other areas of professional nursing (communication, competence, patient centred care, information needs, patients experience of myocardial infarction, patient assessment, conceptual models of nursing) and through the development of seed projects and publications in this field.
