BIO

Dr Braganca joined UCD in 2016, having worked previously at Queen's University Belfast, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Manchester.

He is the Director of the BA Humanities Languages, Linguistics and Cultures Programme at UCD since 2020, and was awarded a College of Arts and Humanities Teaching Excellence Award in 2022.

His background is in French history, literature and cultural studies and, to date, his main academic publications are:
- Memories of the Second World War in Neutral Europe, 1945-2023 (Routledge 2024);
- Hitler's French Literary Afterlives, 1945-2017 (Palgrave 2019);
- Ego-Histories of France and the Second World War: Writing Vichy (Palgrave 2018);
- The Long Aftermath: Cultural Legacies of Europe at War, 1936-2016 (Berghahn, 2016; 2nd edition in 2018);

Since he joined UCD, he has secured external research funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the British Academy (BA), Leverhulme, the Society for French Studies (SFS), the Association for the Study of Modern and Contemporary France (ASMCF), and the Society for the Study of French History (SSFH).

He is an Editorial Board Member of the Review of European Studies (Canadian Center of Science and Education, H-index 17), an Assistant Editor of H-France (an online research platform with over 4,000 subscribers worldwide), and a Committee Member of the United Kingdom Sartre Society (UKSS). He was previously Associate Editor of the journal Open Cultural Studies (De Gruyter, H-index 7, 2017-2024), Editorial Board member of Modern & Contemporary France (Routledge, H-index 15, 2013-2016) and Co-Editor of the Year's Work in Modern Languages (Brill, 2006-2010).

He regularly peer-reviews grants for the British Academy and the Arts & Humanities Research Council, and routinely reviews book proposals for major publishers - including Palgrave, Routledge, Brill, White Rose, and Bloomsbury - and articles for major journals in his field, such as the Journal of European Studies and Modern & Contemporary France.

His latest academic research article, published open access in 2023 in the journal Modern & Contemporary France, explores the underlying historical and ethical constraints at stake in the cover design process of novels that focus on Hitler. It is freely available here: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/09639489.2021.2003311

He occasionally writes open access articles for the general public. His brief history of Mein Kampf in French language, published initially in The Conversation in 2016, has been republished in The New Republic (in English), Le Point (in French) and Xataka-Magnet (in Spanish), and read over 115,000 times to date.
