DrMatt Glowatz

Dr Matt Glowatz is an Assistant Professor at University College Dublin (UCD)’s College of Business. He holds a PhD in creative technology innovation from UCD, investigating the affordances of Augmented Reality (AR) learning experiences in higher business education.

Matt delivers undergraduate and postgraduate modules focusing on digital business innovation, artificial intelligence strategy, and digital project management. Students have enthusiastically responded to his pioneering use of innovative educational technologies to enhance their learning experience. These innovations have provided the basis for Matt's contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning, mainly digital, metaverse, and AI-enhanced learning.

Matt received the UCD College of Business Global Engagement Award in 2025, the UCD College of Business Teaching Award in 2021, was included in the UCD College of Business Dean’s List of Outstanding Teachers in 2019 and 2020, received twice the Excellence in Teaching Awards in the Higher Diploma of Business Studies (IT) programme, and won the Educational Contribution Award at the Irish Internet Association's Net Visionary Awards 2006, which recognised his significant contribution to the Irish Internet Industry through education.

In June 2023, Matt received the “Best Practitioner Presentation Award” entitled “Augmenting the Learning Experience: The ALEX Implementation Framework for Higher Business Education” from the 9^th International Immersive Learning Research Network’s (iLRN) conference.

In 2015, Matt was appointed co-chair of the Bled e-Conference, a particular interest group focusing on Education in the Digital Economy. In 2017, he was awarded the Bled eConference Fellow Award in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the conference, followed by his appointment as the conference’s research track co-chair in 2024 and overall research track chair in 2025 and 2026

Furthermore, he has also published numerous research articles and conference contributions.
