RESEARCH INTERESTS

The circulation and transmission of vernacular religious prose of the later middle ages, leading to a growing expertise in the field of manuscripts and book production . I have published an edition of Exornatorium Curatorum (2013) with the Middle English Text Series and a number of articles on Sacerdos Parochialis , including one on Austin Canons and their programme of theological reform which was published in After Arundel (eds Vincent Gillespie and Kantik Ghosh). The medieval manuscript fragments in Marsh's Library, with the publication of an article on an unnoticed fragment of Gretham's Miroir (JEBS) and the introduction of a research-based module for MA students. A volume of the Index of Middle English Prose ( IMEP ) for TCD; the IMEP volumes seek to record every item of prose in repositories across the world, with twenty-two volumes already published and several others in production. The emphasis on religion, history and science in TCD reflects the interests of James Ussher, whose collection forms the basis of the TCD manuscripts. The significant number of religious writings has already prompted in-depth studies on two of the manuscripts in that collection. UCD has a long tradition of teaching Old and Middle English, which culminated in the hosting of the Anglo-Saxon International Conference in 2014 under the auspices of Prof. Mary Clayton. To celebrate the Dublin ISAS conference, I worked with Bernard O'Donoghue, Eilean ní Chuilleanáin, Frank McGuinness to produce a short collection of articles on the influence of Medieval literature on Anglo-Irish literature for the Irish University Review (2015). There is scope for further development in this field of research.
