Assoc ProfessorRem Collier

Rem Collier is an Associate Professor in the UCD School of Computer Science and co-director of the Linked Agents and Intelligence Research (LAIR) Group. He has a primary degree in pure and applied mathematics from the University of Bristol (1994); an M.Sc. in Computation (Examination & Disseration) and an M.Phil. by Research from the University of Manchester (1995 & 1996 respectively); and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from University College Dublin (2001). He has published over 170 articles in peer reviewed conferences and journals in the areas of Engineering Multi-Agent Systems, Social Robotics, Pervasive Computing, Sensor Networks and Smart Agriculture; acted as primary research supervisor for 16 PhD Students (+3 currently under supervision) and 2 MSc Students; mentored 5 Post Doctoral Researchers and 6 Research Assistants; reviewed for leading conferences (ECAI, IJCAI, AAMAS, AAAI) and journals (JAAMAS, AI, AMAI, Computers in Industry, SN Computer Science, SoftwareX); and engaged in large scale Research Projects worth more than €20m as either Lead Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator, including WP Leader/Lead PI of CONSUS (2017-2024; €17.4M) and Co-PI of CAMEO (2021-2024, €6.4M). As part of his teams work on CONSUS, 9 Invention Disclosures were identified and licensed by the industry partner, Origin Enterprises; 2 additional IDs were identified for their work on CAMEO and a Financial Trading System targetting the Pharmaceutical Industry. He is co-chair of the W3C Web Agents Community Group since its formation in 2024. 

His Research Group is actively researching Hypermedia Multi-Agent Systems, Distributed Knowledge Graphs, Digital Twins, Agentic Systems and Smart Agriculture. He has given invited talks at MICAI (2022), Huawei Autonomous Driving Networks (2023, 2025), University of Bath (2024), and University of St Gallen (2025); and has co-organised the 23rd European Agent Systems Summer School (2024), 21st European Conference on Multi-Agent Systems (2024), the 2nd Workshop on Hypermedia Multi-Agent Systems (2025), the 36th International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS 2026), the ICAPS Summer School (2026), and the 14th International Workshop on Engineering Multi-Agent Systems (2026).

As a part-time digital transformation consultant for Hibernian Healthcare (2012-2019), he led the creation of a bespoke industry-leading Web-based System for Patient Support Programs that is used by all major Pharaceutical Companies, Irish Hospitals (public and private) and Healthcare Clinics.
