RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr Simone Marcone`s research interests are focused on translational oncology: understanding the role of inflammation and energy metabolism changes in the tumour microenvironment to develop novel targeted therapeutics and diagnostic biomarkers. Simone has a particular interest in deciphering the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating disease development, progression, and resistance to treatment, and has developed ex vivo human explants models for testing and development of novel theranostics in the cancer area. Dr Marcone's research has been funded by Health Research Board, Science Foundation Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and Irish Association Cancer Research.
