TEACHING ACTIVITIES

I love teaching and follow a learner-centered and reflective approach that is informed by Universal Design for Learning. I hold a Teaching Excellence award and the UCD Diploma in University Teaching & Learning (both 2017), the Digital Badge for Universal Design for Learning (2022). As Vice-Principal for Teaching & Learning in the College of Arts & Humanities I am involved in policy making, and get exposure to wide range of teaching practices and strategies, all of which inform my own teaching.

I have taught German-language modules at all levels of the CEFR, and cultural modules that explore material from the German-speaking lands from the 18th through to the 21st century. I have a long-standing involvement with the introduction to reading German literature module in first year. I have designed and coordinated different iterations of the core language modules in second year and final year, and I designed and teach the Advanced Translation (German-English) module. Music being my main hobby, I include it in my cultural modules wherever possible, currently in a module on Adapting the Grimms (Humperdinck's opera "Hänsel und Gretel"). For five years I co-taught a module on German Opera with Prof. Wolfgang Marx in the School of Music.
