RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research is located at the Clinical Research Centre, where we investigate fibrosis and epigenetic mechanisms in both primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXFG). Areas of intertest the role of DNA methylation in regulating lysyl oxidase like 1 (LOXL1) expression in PXFG, genotyping an Irish population for risk determining single nucleotide polymorphisms in LOXL1, delineating disease pathways in glaucoma.
I was a Co-Principal Investigator for the Enterprise Ireland DTIF-PERSONA grant which focused on the development and implementation of Patient Centric Sampling.
Current research projects include, Investigation of Novel Biomarkers in Fibrotic Diseases (PhD) and the GLIMMER Project, Glaucoma Medication Adherence Improvement through Educational Resources (MD).
