TEACHING ACTIVITIES
For me, teaching is a collaborative endeavour to gain a greater understanding through the development of critical thinking and analytical skills. It is a learning experience for everyone at every level, all of which require systematic and reflective practice from all participants. My goal is to provide a challenging and rigorous experience for students that fosters their engagement and commitment in an open, inclusive and friendly environment in which they feel confident, respected and valued. My concept of education, teaching philosophy and strategies arise from systematic reflection on my research and professional experiences. Thus, the courses I teach encourage the development of the knowledge, skills and competencies needed in global and plural societies such as civic literacy, social and cultural awareness, collaboration and empathy as integral aspects of the syllabus.
My teaching philosophy is informed by my own lived- experience as an international student and researcher (in Mexico, UK, Brazil, Spain and Ireland). I also shape my teaching philosophy from my research on equality and social justice education Thus, in all my teaching activities at UCD (teaching modules, supervisions and mentoring) I have the following core principles to guide my practices:
• Value everyone's experiences and identities
• Create a respectful and welcoming environment for everyone
• Work towards a global and plural society
