I am Professor of Architecture in the School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy where I was formerly Head of School. My ten-year term as Dean and Chair of the ALPEP Programme Board concluded in 2020. I teach in the history and theory programme and in design studio.
.My research interests include modern and contemporary architecture in Ireland, the relationship between photography, architecture and built space and the visual culture and development of cities. My recent publications include an edited book with Igea Troiani on Architecture Filmmaking and a monograph on photography and built space entitled Space Framed (2020).
Previous significant publications include joint editorship (with Loeber, Hurley, Montague and Rowley) of Vol 4 of the Art and Architecture of Ireland series, Architecture 1600-2000.
I have supervised and examined numerous PhDs in the areas of urban history, photography and design history and theory.

Since 2024, I have a University role as Academic Director of Campus Space Management and Development, which involves guiding the use of the campus to support the academic mission while continuing to reduce carbon emissions.
