RESEARCH INTERESTS
RESEARCH STATEMENT My broad area of research is Organizational Behavior. Congruent with my disciplinary background in Social/Organizational Psychology, a significant part of my research looks into the application of psychology into management and organizations. Over the past decade, I have mainly pursued the following three streams of research: A. Creativity and problem solving by individuals and teams, with a focus on organizational and work contexts. Within this stream, I have examined the role of individual factors (e.g., motivation types, affect and identity) as well as contextual factors (e.g., competitive vs. non-competitive situations). B. Learning processes in organizations and management education and development. This stream includes research on individual (e.g., values and beliefs) and contextual (e.g., organizational social networks) factors that affect individuals' learning in educational and organizational settings and their adaptation to socio-technical changes in organizations. C. Cross-cultural management. Studies in this stream include examination of factors affecting cultural intelligence and identity, the effects of cultural diversity on individual and team performance as well as comparative cross-cultural management studies. A brief summary of my research outputs and approach: · I focus on publishing in leading international journals and with high-repute book publishers. I have published 13 papers in international refereed journals and five book chapters/entries. · The journals I publish in are high impact. 11 out of my 13 journal publications appeared in journals listed in Thomson Reuters Social Sciences Citation Index (JCR) , a selective database, which contains selected, high-quality, world-leading journals. · Half of these journals are currently ranked at either first or second quartiles in their subject categories. · In addition, I published seven book contributions, which include four full research book chapters. All books were published in highly respected academic publishers, including Emerald and Sage . · SInce 1994, I took part (as organiser, author and/or presenter) in over 80 peer-reviewed paper and symposia sessions, many of which were presented in leading international conferences such as the Academy of Management Annual meeting. ·
Awards : Five of my paper presentations received merit awards or were shortlisted for them (see further details in attached publication list). · Research Funds : Since arriving at UCD in 2003, I have received nine UCD research grants in various Seed Funding competitions (either School or University based). I was sole author on a successful IRCHSS Research Development Initiative (RDI) and was faculty sponsor on a successful IRCHSS Postgraduate Research Fellowship of an MPhil student I supervised. Member of leading international journal Editorial Boards : · Journal of Organizational Behavior · Academy of Management Learning & Education Journal · I am the Editor in Chief for the AMLE Journal's 2013 Special Issue, titled ' Cross-cultural Management Learning & Education: Exploring Multiple Aims, Approaches and Impacts.' (along with guest editors Guenter Stahl and Charmine Hartel) . With 37 proposals from leading scholars worldwide, the competition to edit this Special Issue was fierce. Winning this competition was both prestigious and highly publicized. The AMLE publishes only one Special Issue each year. This Special Issue, which was published in September 2013, already had a major impact in the cross-cultural management and management learning and education areas.
