RESEARCH INTERESTS
We study the synthesis, characterisation and application of heterogeneous catalysis in the areas of environmental chemistry and energy generation / conditioning.
Current projects involve the upgrading of lignin through thermal and photocatalytic approaches, artificial photosynthesis over plasmonic and z-scheme photocatalytsts, the use of plasma assisted catalysis in the valorisation of methane and the remediation of PFAS and the use of different catalytc techniques to recycle plastic waste.
Recent projects have also looked at hydrogen storage, cellulose upgrading and organic pollutant oxidative remediation (using plasma / thermal and photocatalytic approaches).
Funding has come from national bodies including Enterprise Ireland, SFI, IRC and Research Ireland as well as the EU (through the MSCA staff exchange network CUPOLA - carbon neutral pathways of recycling marine plastic waste).
