Assoc ProfessorNaomi McAreavey

I arrived in UCD School of English, Drama and Film in September 2006 having completed my doctoral thesis at Queen's University, Belfast, earlier that year. I specialize in the literature and culture of early modern Ireland, particularly women's writing and the memory cultures of the 1641 rebellion. I teach on Shakespeare and Renaissance literature at undergraduate level, on the literature of early modern Ireland at MA level, and in 2013-16 supervised a PhD on the life writing of the Boyle women. I completed my Graduate Diploma in University Teaching and Learning in 2013, and was the recipient of UCD's President's Teaching Award 2012 in recognition of excellence in teaching. More recently in 2017 I received a Teaching Excellence Award from the College of Arts and Humanities. I served as Head of Teaching and Learning for the School of English, Drama and Film in 2016-17 and as Vice Principal for Teaching and Learning in the College of Arts and Humanities in 2017-20. I am currently University for All Faculty Partner for Arts and Humanities. I am PI for a SATLE-funded project on the impact of generative AI on teaching, learning and assessment in the Arts and Humanities.
