TEACHING ACTIVITIES
My teaching is shaped by inclusive education principles and especially Universal Design for Learning (UDL). I am a critically reflective teacher who continually strives to develop and improve the learning experiences of my students. I see my role in the classroom as a facilitator, and I believe that learning should be engaged, collaborative and creative. I like to give my students opportunities to for active learning.
My modules tend to focus on Shakespeare and Renaissance drama and poetry, but I also teach in my specialist area, which is the literary cultures of early modern Ireland and especially women's writing. I have supervised BA and MA dissertations on a range of topics, from women's writing to non-Shakespearean drama to Shakespeare in adaptation, but whatever the topic I see my main job as facilitating the students' critical review and revision of their own work, and to help them become more skilled researchers, more imaginative thinkers, and more fluent and confident writers.
