DrSiobhan Donovan

I have been teaching in German Studies within UCD's multi-subject School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics since 1999, where I teach cultural and German-language modules. I hold a BA Mod Hons (German & French) and PhD, both from Trinity College Dublin. My PhD and early career research focused on the Enlightenment and 18th/19th-century History of Ideas, but has since diversified to include the interrelationship between music and German-speaking literature, and Swiss-German literature. 

I enjoy embedding my research interests into my teaching where possible, and I hold the Professional Diploma in University Teaching and Learning from UCD.

Since September 2023 I am the Vice-Principal for Teaching & Learning at the UCD College of Arts & Humanities with responsibility for T & L in the College's 7 Schools. I am also the School Coordinator for the B Ed. in Education, Irish and/or Modern Languages. I was a member of first steering group to design the programme, which took in its first cohort of students in September 2023. The degree includes a semester at an Erasmus exchange partner, as well as a 4-week school placement abroad or a semester in the Gaeltacht.
