RESEARCH INTERESTS
I research in Business Analytics and Operations Research, applying these techniques to solve real world business problems such as those that arise in the clean energy transition. This involves creating mathematical models of the problems, applying combinatorial optimisation techniques like Integer Programming to solve the models, and interpreting the solutions as a set of decision recommendations. It may also involve the use of statistical and machine learning models.
I am a member of ENOG, the European Network Optimisation Working Group of EURO. EURO is the Association of European Operational Research Societies. I hosted INOC 2024 (the biennial International Network Optimisation Conference of ENOG) at UCD, https://inoc2024.sciencesconf.org/
I am a member of UCD's Earth and Energy Institutes, and am an investigator in two Science Foundation Ireland Centres for Research Training: Foundations of Data Science www.data-science.ie, and ML-Labs https://ml-labs.ucd.ie/.
Visiting Researcher:
Graph and Optimization (GOM), Université Libre de Bruxellles, Belgium, Sept-Oct 2017;
Operational Research and Optimization Group, (ERGO) University of Edinburgh, Scotland, Jan 2018;
Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation (CIRRELT), Université de Montréal, Canada, Mar - Apr 2018.
