RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research group focuses on host-pathogen interactions, and is actively involved in understanding how helminths influence bacterial pathogens and gut microbiota. Ourr lab currently focusses on the interaction of equine small strongyles with the equine bacterial gut microbiome, and with systemic and local inflammation. These studies are complemented by expanding interests into the gut microbiota of dogs. The group enjoys good collaborative relationships with many other groups in Ireland and internationally, and forms part of the strong One Health theme through the School Veterinary Medicine, cognate schools (SBBS, SMMS) and the Conway Institute.
