RESEARCH INTERESTS
Integration of geological structure (sedimentological and fault/fracture related) into conventional subsurface modelling and engineering practice, through the invention, development and application of innovative tools and workflows.
Understanding fluid movement and pressure evolution in different subsurface contexts (production, migration, sequestration), through rigorous integration of multi-phase fluid flow and appropriately up-scaled geological structure.
Quantitative characterisation of fault and fracture systems from outcrop and subsurface, with particular reference to aspects capable of influencing fluid flow.
Former research students:
- F. Javier López Cabrera (PhD Awarded 2021). Principal supervisor: "Rule-based modelling and characterization of hierarchical deep-water lobes".
- Deirdre Walsh (PhD Awarded 2020). Principal supervisor: "Hierarchical compression-based reservoir modelling conditioned to well data".
- Kishan Soni (PhD Awarded 2020). Principal supervisor: "Hierarchical characterization and modelling of deep-water slope channel reservoirs".
- Vasileios Papanikolaou (PhD Awarded 2019). Principal supervisor: "Representation of three-dimensional fault zones in structured corner-point grids".
- Efstratios Delogkos (PhD, Awarded 2016). Co-supervisor: "Structure and evolution of faults in the Ptolemais Lignite Mines, Greece".
- Leifu Zhang (PhD, Awarded 2015): Principal supervisor: "Modelling sandstone connectivity in deep-marine environments".
- Saiful Islam (PhD, Awarded 2015): Principal supervisor: "Upscaling methods for inclusion of 3D fault zone structure in flow simulation models".
- Alan Irving (PhD, Awarded 2011). Principal supervisor: "Modelling of uncertainty in reservoir fault geometry and properties".
